COPA Config Notes
Submitted by dkaps on 22 February, 2006 - 14:35.Basic configuration in COPA involves creation/maintenance of
Characteristics, Value Fields, and Operating Concern. This blog gives some of that
background:
Characteristics
You can also manually define new characteristics that you only want to use
in Profitability Analysis. Since these characteristics have no table of origin, their values are not automatically derived
from other characteristics. You therefore need to define derivation steps for them. The name of new characteristics must
begin with "WW" and consist of 4 or 5 characters. Depending on the desired attributes, you must choose one of the following
variants:

First Things to Target in a New SAP Implementation?
Submitted by dkaps on 29 March, 2006 - 13:11.I was recently thinking that
if you are starting a new SAP implementation - what are major things that you would like to nail down first at the team
level? Some of the things that you would attack the first! Here are some of the Org Structure and other stuff that I could
think of. Do you have anything to add to this list?

10 Tips to Maintain Discipline in a Multi-Project BW Environment
Submitted by dkaps on 30 July, 2005 - 17:05.1. Establish rules and boundaries from the beginning. You will set the tone for your whole project by instituting a defined structure right from the start We recommend that you begin with basic terminology. It is a misnomer, for example, to call your prototyping (or pre-development) environment a sandbox. The term sandbox conjures up the image of an area where project teams can play. Spending money for the hardware and maintenance of a non-essential system in the BW landscape is a luxury that most companies cannot afford.
2. Taken steps early to identify all shared objects and communicate this information.

SAP SEM and Simulation - Creating intelligent enterprise systems thru the application of Simulation Science.
Submitted by justin1028 on 6 September, 2005 - 06:02.Companies with
investments in SAP-SEM can easily develop simulations for improving their company’s performance into the future. For
the past fifty years or so, Simulation Science has been extremely niche. That is going to change. We are at the tipping point
for Simulation Science.
Universities Offering SAP Courses!
Submitted by dkaps on 17 August, 2005 - 21:44.I had heard long time back when SAP was real hot (it still is, but I am talking of those heady days of late 1990's!) - there were some Universities that had started some SAP courses...
I just came across this University in UK that offers training and classes in SAP as part of their "SAP MSc Information Technology and Management".
America seems to owe North Korea $ 65 trillion, says Kim Jong-Il
Submitted by JaronJ on 14 July, 2010 - 23:16.Reparations payments were an inseparable part of post-war recovery for centuries, and now North Korea's Kim Jong-Il wants a piece of the pie. It was reported by the Australian Broadcasting Company that North Korea is demanding – not suggesting; demanding – that the United States pay nearly $ 65 trillion U.S. in reparations for "six decades of hostility." KCNA, the official state-controlled news agency of North Korea, reports that just compensation for the tribulations suffered since the division of the Korean peninsula in 1945 is $ 64.96 trillion.

FI-Accounts Payable: Some Configuration Notes
Submitted by schadda on 21 July, 2006 - 22:24.Accounts
Payable is an important sub-module within FI and it is inevitable to come across its effect whether you are trying to
configure MM or CO or PP. So I am providing these brief notes that can be used to configure AP.
Accounts
Payable
AP is a subledger with strong integration with MM, AR, and reasury Module.
House
Banks
First Step: We first create House Banks. These are the banks for your clients. Your client uses
these for its banking transactions. One House Bank can have multiple bank accounts assigned to it.
The New General Ledger
Here is something on a New ledger that brings together the GL, SPL and PCA from SAP R/3 FI-CO.. for the SAP White paper visit here.
Below is some more information on this:
Nowadays, the general ledger in SAP R/3 is quite fragmented. SAP customers currently have to implement several SAP components in order to meet international and/or industry-specific standards. To get round this, a new flexible solution for the general ledger has been created in mySAP ERP. It combines the general ledger modules including the cost-of-sales ledger, profit center accounting, special purpose ledger and the consolidation ledger. The new general ledger is built on a "broader", standardized database, and aspects such as the general ledger account, functional area and profit center are grouped together in one data record. This enhances the quality of data, reconciliation measures become unnecessary and the period-end closing processes are quicker to carry out. In short, the new general ledger helps to reduce the total cost of ownership considerably.
Internal Orders and Projects: Differences in functionality
Submitted by dkaps on 22 February, 2006 - 13:41.There is a need sometimes to evaluate the different functionalities offered by Internal Orders vs Projects.
Both can be used to track activities and costs. The use of one vs the other is always a matter of choice based on the needs
of the clients and mapping them to the tools available in both the areas! Here are the main differences between Internal
Orders and Projects:
* Only projects enable you to create a hierarchical structure for the objects that collect
costs.
* Orders are always one-dimensional. For example, it is not possible to distribute budgets for several orders
in a structured form from top to bottom.
* Projects also offer the advantage of their integration with networks and
the functions of logistics. With orders, for example, it is not possible to carry out capacity and resource planning.
Allocations in SAP Controlling
1. Introduction and Background
Allocations are an important part of every implementation using cost center accounting. This paper should help to make the right choice of allocation using best practices and show how to configure the SAP system. This paper primarily focuses on cost center allocations of actual costs. It is recommended that as far as possible the basis of plan allocations should be the same as for actual allocations to ensure consistency of data. In our implementation experience, the most common type of allocation is assessment. This type of allocation will be described in more detail.
2. Best Practices
Allocation is the apportionment of costs based on an estimate rather than a direct measurement. Financial accounting requires that all costs of manufacturing be included in valuing inventory and cost of sales. If the cost system is being used to value inventory for financial reporting, some allocation must be made to individual products. This allocation can be done based on units produced or inputs, such as labor or machine hours.

PowerSim and SEM BPS Intergration
Submitted by dkaps on 25 July, 2006 - 14:27.The Integration between Powersim and SEM BPS is a very interesting one. Not many clients
use it. But those who do, find the body of information hard to come by. Here is a little primer that maybe used for help in
configuring the integration.
There are five broad steps for the configuration and to get the integration
going:
1. Variable Selection in PowerSim
2. Creation of the Planning Hierarchy (Area/Level/Package) within SEM BPS
